Best At-Home Activities for Kids
The Coronavirus has been in our community for a couple weeks now and in order to protect our kids, we have been keeping them home. But with the long days ahead of us, we want to keep our kids occupied. In addition to continuing with their schoolwork as best as they can, we have a few suggestions:
Do Some Serious Reading
Depending on the age of your kids, now is a great time to introduce them to some great book series such as Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling or Little House by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Coloring is always a great idea when you are stuck at home! Whether you and your kids prefer crayons or paint, you will have fun! There are a variety of coloring books suitable for all ages – or be daring and start with a blank sheet of paper!
Play Some Board Games
When we venture out to the stores, we have noticed that a lot of families are buying board games to help keep the kids occupied. We are on board with this idea and are looking forward to playing Candyland and Clue with our kids!
Build Something Big
In addition to board games, we’ve noticed that parents are buying up Lego sets, and we think that it is a brilliant idea! In addition to Legos, your kids can build something from K’nex or magnetic tiles.
Teach Them a New Skill
Now is a great time to teach the kids a skill that they might not learn in a traditional classroom. We can’t wait to pull out our sewing machine and teach the kids how to sew – maybe by the time this is all over, we might have a quilt made! Other skills that would be great to teach our kids during this time at home include knitting, crocheting, baking, woodworking, leathercrafts, and gardening.
